Division 3 is home to basic and translational research of neuroscientists affiliated with the departments of Psychiatry and Neuropsychology, Neurosurgery, Anaesthesiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Paediatrics and Urology. Prof. B. Rutten, who succeeded Prof. M. de Baets since mid 2012, heads the Division. The Division leader is supported by two deputy Division leaders: Prof. Y. Temel and Dr J. Prickaerts.
The mission of Division 3 is to significantly improve the understanding of the biological mechanisms mediating normal and aberrant functioning of the nervous system, and to innovate clinical care at the levels of prevention, diagnosis and treatment for patients with disorders of the nervous system.
The strategy is to embark on this mission by performing high-quality translational and back-translation neuroscience, with a bidirectional roadmap from fundamental via preclinical to clinical neurosciences, and in a life span perspective.
