Myotonic dystrophy and (painful) neuropathy/small fiber neuropathy

Research into neuromuscular disorders (led by Dr. C. Faber) targets myotonic dystrophy and (painful) neuropathy/small fibre neuropathy. A longstanding collaboration between the Maastricht UMC and Prof.dr. S. Waxman (Yale University) and dr. G. Lauria (Carlo Besta, Milan) has led to new developments in understanding the pathogenetic basis of neuropathic pain. This resulted in several papers in high-impact journals. Furthermore, grants from the European Union 7th Framework Programme (grant n°602273) and from the Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds (W.OR12-01) were obtained. The PeriNomS study resulted in an international consensus meeting on outcome measures in peripheral neuropathies in Naarden, guided by the European Neuromuscular Centre (February 2013).
